One of the most popular spa services I get booked for is a facial. That is because there is a facial that can help clean, rejuvenate, detoxify and exfoliate any type of skin. People of all ages and genders can benefit from a facial. Young, and not so young, have different skin issues that can be solved with good skin care from a professional a few times a year.
But in a traditional spa, a facial can mean a whole host of different chemicals put on and absorbed into the skin, the body’s largest organ, to help skin look younger or more radiant. I searched far and wide to find organic products that would give excellent results for facials of all kinds, without using any of the harsh chemicals my customers are shying away from. And the other bonus of using natural products is they smell good enough to eat. For those teenage boys and girls with breakouts, I have developed a teen facial that will help extract those pesky blackheads and impurities often seen in teenage skin. I also explain to each of my teenage customers the importance of cleansing and exfoliating to avoid breakouts in the future. They really seem to appreciate the education coming from someone in the business. For older more delicate skin there are many organic products that can help to create a more youthful appearance. I have found a line of organic peels from Hungary that will have you leaving the spa feeling and looking your best. And let’s not forget those men in our lives who don’t make regular visits to the spa. We have a gentleman’s facial that will add vitamins and antioxidants to the skin - all in under an hour. I would be more than happy to speak with you and tell you more about a Bloom Organic facial that might be right for your skin. Yours in good health, Nikki Bloom Organic Spa When I decided to open a toxic-free spa I knew that I wanted to not just find products that were chemical free, I wanted to find products that would be as effective as traditional products. I needed to research and experiment to make sure I was giving a great service that would be every bit as good as a traditional experience, but without any of the toxic chemicals.
It took time and effort to try different products from different companies before I was satisfied they were right for my spa. I set a high bar for myself and for my customers. Spring has arrived and that often means all of us ladies start to wear sandals and open shoes - so our feet need to look and feel their best. One thing you will never see here is a mask on my face. That is because the air is healthy and toxic free for everyone that works and visits. When it comes to a pedicure, there are many different elements that can be toxic. The nail polish remover is a soup of strong chemicals - acetone for starters - that you can often smell when you enter a spa. This is the first of many chemicals that are used during the pedicure process. Next are the soaps, scrubs and salts that are used on the feet. I looked far and wide to find organic based products that contained none of the hard to pronounce ingredients that are often included in these products. They smell good because they are sweetened with natural essential oils like lavender. The nail polish itself often contains 7 different chemicals - the most common being formaldehyde which is not good to breathe or have on your nails - it also tends to discolour the nail beds and thin them out. I use two different brands of nail polish that satisfied all my wishes for a Bloom pedicure. Spa Ritual and Pure Ananda are both vegan brands that are non-GMO and fit my criteria. They both have a great selection of colours so the eco girl still has lots of choice when it comes to being environmental. So why not stop in and say hello and smell for yourself? I look forward to meeting you. Here’s to your good health, Nikki Bloom Organic Spa Let me explain. As a mother and wife I have long since realized that chemicals are in everything. Our food. Our air. Our water. And our healthcare products. I care deeply about the health and welfare of my family so I try to reduce the chemicals we put in our bodies as much as possible.
One of the areas I found to be behind the times was the spa experience. Everywhere I went I saw spas that used harsh chemicals and products containing dangerous carcinogens. At many of the spas I visited I saw women wearing masks while they did my treatments. So I asked myself, if the lady doing my pedicure is wearing a mask, what about me? Why aren’t they giving me a mask? And what about a spa that was didn’t have all those chemicals in the first place? All you have to do nowadays is walk into a traditional spa and you can smell the chemicals. The polish removers. The polish itself. The cleaning products. That all adds up to a big mess of chemicals in a contained area. Add to that, products that are being put onto the skin; cleansers, moisturizers, massage oils that are not made from natural sources. It’s simply not healthy for the customers or the people that work there. So I bravely decided to say no to chemicals. And start my own business. I found a location that was central to the Oakville, Mississauga, and Burlington area on Kerr Street in Oakville. And then I started to research the kind of professional products I wanted to use. They needed to give the same amazing results as other products, but they needed to be chemical free and also peanut free and non-GMO. There are many organic products out there now, but many didn’t live up to my criteria such as vegan and cruelty free. I also looked to Canada first and if I couldn’t find what I was looking for, I looked elsewhere. Some of the fine products I carry currently are; Spa Ritual for nails products, Pure Ananda for makeup and polish, ilike from Hungary, for a line of skincare products for all skin types, Oakville based Enfleurage Organics for lip balms, Clean Kiss Organics for body scrubs and my most loved product of all; Sugar of the Nile for sugaring hair removal products. People go crazy for it. I use all of these products in the spa and they are also for sale to my loyal customers to continue to enjoy at home. It has been very rewarding to see the joy and relief from my customers when they come in and don’t have to inhale chemicals to get a great spa experience. And I breathe easier knowing that my workplace is a healthy, happy environment. In the coming months I will share more of my wisdom and thoughts on this ever-evolving area of interest.
